Gene Ammons Vinyl Records

Gene Ammons (1925–1974) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist who was known for his soulful, bluesy playing style and gospel-infused recordings. Born in Chicago, he began playing the saxophone at age nine and studied at the Chicago Conservatory of Music. He first gained recognition when he joined the Lionel Hampton Orchestra in 1945, and went on to play with the likes of Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, and Charlie Parker. Ammons is best known for his recordings on the Prestige label in the 1950s and 1960s. His most renowned albums include The Soulful Moods of Gene Ammons (1956), Boss Tenor (1961), and Jammin' with Gene (1966). Some of his most famous songs include "Moody's Mood for Love," "My Romance," and "The Twister." An interesting fact about Gene Ammons is that he was nicknamed "The Boss" for his authoritative and commanding presence on the saxophone. He was also the father of jazz-funk keyboardist George Duke.
