Gato Barbieri is an Argentinean jazz saxophonist who rose to fame in the 1970s. He is known for his fiery and passionate approach to music and his collaborations with other artists. He began his musical career in the 1950s, playing traditional South American music. He then moved to New York City in 1962 and began to incorporate elements of Latin jazz and other styles into his music.

Gato Barbieri's standout albums include El Gato (1973), Caliente (1976), and The Shadow of the Cat (1975). His most successful album was the Grammy-winning Last Tango in Paris (1973). Some of his most popular songs include β€œEuropa (Earth’s Cry Heaven’s Smile)", "Volver", and "Quimica".

An interesting fact about Gato Barbieri is that he is the only jazz musician to ever have his music featured in a feature film soundtrack. His song "Last Tango in Paris" was used in the 1972 film of the same name.
