Emil Gilels Vinyl Records
Emil Gilels (1916-1985) was a Russian pianist, considered one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory and began his professional career in the 1930s. In the 1940s, he toured extensively in the Soviet Union and internationally, performing with leading orchestras and conductors. Gilels made numerous recordings throughout his career, many of which remain staples of the classical music repertoire.
Some of his standout albums include: Beethoven: Complete Piano Concertos (1954), Brahms: Complete Piano Concertos (1956), and Prokofiev: Complete Piano Concertos (1958). Among Gilels' most popular songs are: Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 "Emperor", Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, and Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major.
An interesting fact about Gilels is that he was the first Soviet artist to be awarded the prestigious Lenin Prize in 1960. He was also named a People's Artist of the USSR in 1974.
