Edith Mathis is a Swiss operatic soprano who made her professional debut in 1966. She has since gone on to become one of the leading sopranos in the world. Mathis is especially renowned for her interpretation of Mozart's operas and her performances of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. She is also known for her performances of works by Richard Strauss and other German and Austrian composers.

Mathis has released many albums, including several devoted to the works of Mozart and Bach. Her standout albums include Mozart: Die Entführung aus dem Serail (1977), Bach: Cantatas (1978) and Haydn: Die Schöpfung (1980). Her standout songs include "Der Hölle Rache Kocht In Meinem Herzen" from Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute), "Erbarme Dich" from Bach's St. Matthew Passion, and "O Isis und Osiris" from Mozart's The Magic Flute.

An interesting fact about Mathis is that she was the first female singer to record all of Mozart's operas. She recorded all 22 of his operas in the span of just three years, from 1974 to 1977.
