Earl Hines was an American jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader. He was one of the most influential figures in jazz, and was dubbed "The Father of Modern Jazz Piano". He began his career in the 1920s, playing with some of the most prominent jazz musicians of the day, including Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, and Cab Calloway. He was known for his virtuosity and improvisational style, which combined elements of stride, ragtime, and blues.

Hines' career spanned over 60 years, during which time he released dozens of albums. His most notable albums include Earl Hines Plays Fats Waller (1956), and Earl Hines Plays the Blues (1959). He is also well-known for his compositions, such as "Stormy Monday Blues", "Rosetta", and "Deep Forest".

An interesting fact about Earl Hines is that he is credited with inventing the "trumpet-style" of jazz piano playing, which is characterized by a two-handed technique in which the right hand plays the melody while the left hand plays the accompaniment. This style has been adopted by many of the greatest jazz pianists, including Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea.
