Dorothy Ashby (1932-1986) was an American jazz harpist and composer. She is best known for her blend of jazz, soul, and classical music styles. She was one of the first jazz harpists to gain wide recognition.

Her most notable albums include Dorothy’s Harp (1958), Afro-Harping (1968), and The Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby (1970). Her standout songs include “Soul Vibrations”, “The Windmills of Your Mind”, and “Soft Winds”.

An interesting fact about Dorothy Ashby is that she was one of the few female jazz harpists of the time. Her unique style of jazz earned her the nickname “The Jazz Harpist”. She was also an accomplished composer, arranger, and performer, and she wrote the music for the movie "Blacula".
