Dinah Washington (born Ruth Lee Jones, 1924-1963) was an American singer and pianist. She was a pioneer of jazz and blues and one of the most popular and influential singers of the 1940s and 1950s. She was dubbed the "Queen of the Blues" and is remembered for her powerful, emotive voice and her ability to interpret a wide variety of musical styles.

Washington's most successful albums include her 1956 album, Dinah Jams, which featured her duet with saxophonist Illinois Jacquet, and her 1959 album What a Diff'rence a Day Makes, which reached number two on the Billboard chart.

Some of her most popular songs include "What a Diff'rence a Day Makes," "I Wanna Be Loved," "A Rockin' Good Way," and "This Bitter Earth."

An interesting fact about Dinah Washington is that she was the first African-American woman to be nominated for a Grammy award. She was nominated for Best Female Vocal Performance in 1959 for her version of "What a Diff'rence a Day Makes."
