David Gilmour is an English musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He is best known for his role as the lead guitarist, one of the lead singers, and one of the main songwriters of the rock band Pink Floyd. He joined the band in 1968, taking over lead guitar duties from the late Syd Barrett.

Gilmour's solo work has included the solo albums David Gilmour (1978), About Face (1984), and On an Island (2006). His most successful and acclaimed solo work is The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking (1984). His standout albums and songs include "Comfortably Numb", "Wish You Were Here", "High Hopes", "On an Island", and "Rattle That Lock".

An interesting fact about David Gilmour is that he is the only Pink Floyd member to be featured on all of the band's albums. He also owns a houseboat studio, the Astoria, which he used to record the solo album On an Island.
