Darkthrone is a Norwegian black metal band that was formed in 1986 in Kolbotn, Norway. The band's founding members are Fenriz and Nocturno Culto, and they have released seventeen studio albums to date. Their first three albums, Soulside Journey, A Blaze in the Northern Sky, and Under a Funeral Moon, are considered to be some of the most influential albums in the Norwegian black metal scene and are considered to be their best work.

Some of their standout albums include Transilvanian Hunger (1994), Panzerfaust (1995), and The Cult is Alive (2006). Their songs "Transilvanian Hunger," "In the Shadow of the Horns," and "The Hordes of Nebulah" are considered to be some of their best.

An interesting fact about Darkthrone is that they had an early punk-inspired sound before transitioning to black metal in their early career. They also moved away from the typical black metal sound on their later albums, often incorporating elements of crust punk, thrash metal, and traditional heavy metal into their music.
