Cyndi Lauper is an American singer, songwriter, actress and activist who rose to fame in the 1980s. She is best known for her unique vocal style and her hits such as “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time”.

Lauper released her debut solo album She's So Unusual in 1983. The album was an instant success and spawned four top-five singles, including “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time”. The album was certified five-times platinum in the US and won Lauper two Grammy Awards in 1984.

Her follow-up album, True Colors, was released in 1986 and featured the hit single of the same name. The album was certified double-platinum in the US and Lauper won another Grammy for Best Music Video in 1987.

Lauper's other studio albums include A Night to Remember (1989), Hat Full of Stars (1993), Sisters of Avalon (1996), Shine (2001), and Memphis Blues (2010).

Lauper has also released several compilations and live albums, including The Essential Cyndi Lauper (2003) and 12 Deadly Cyns...and Then Some (1994).

An interesting fact about Lauper is that she was the first female artist to have four top-five singles from a debut album. She also became the first female artist to be nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy Award in 1984.
