Common (formerly known as Common Sense) is an American rapper, actor, and poet from Chicago, Illinois. He is one of the most successful and influential rappers of all time. He has released 11 studio albums since his 1992 debut Can I Borrow a Dollar?

Common's most acclaimed and successful albums include his 1994 sophomore album Resurrection, which featured the Grammy-winning single "I Used to Love H.E.R."; 2000's Like Water for Chocolate, which included the singles "The Light" and "The 6th Sense"; 2005's Be, which earned Common two Grammy awards; and 2011's The Dreamer/The Believer, which included the single "Ghetto Dreams" featuring Nas.

Common has also released a number of acclaimed collaborative projects, including 2005's Be with John Legend, 2007's Finding Forever with producer Kanye West, and 2011's Watch the Throne with Jay-Z.

Common has also enjoyed success as an actor, appearing in films such as American Gangster, Wanted, Terminator Salvation, Date Night, and Just Wright.

An interesting fact about Common is that he was the first rapper to ever perform at the White House, performing in the East Room for President Obama in 2011.
