Carlo Maria Giulini Vinyl Records

Carlo Maria Giulini was an Italian conductor and violinist who had a long and distinguished career in classical music. He was born in Barletta, Italy, in 1914 and studied music at the Milan Conservatory. He began his career as a violinist in the 1930s, but soon moved into conducting, leading a number of orchestras in Italy and the United States. He was renowned for his interpretations of Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, as well as for his work in opera.

Giulini was appointed Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1978 and served in that position until 1984. He was also Music Director of the Vienna Symphony from 1973-1976. During his career he made a number of notable recordings, including his interpretations of Mozart's "Requiem" and "The Marriage of Figaro," Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, and Bruckner's Symphony No. 8. He was also known for his recordings of Italian opera, including Verdi's "La Traviata" and Puccini's "La Bohème."

One of Giulini's standout albums is his 1974 recording of Verdi's "Requiem," which won the Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance. He also received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993.

An interesting fact about Giulini is that he was a committed Christian, and often included works from the Catholic Mass in his concerts. He was also a strong advocate for social justice, and often spoke out against the injustice and inequality he saw in the world.
