Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826) was a German composer, conductor and pianist. He is best remembered for his operas, particularly Der Freischütz, which marked the beginning of German Romantic opera. He also wrote orchestral works, piano pieces and some chamber music.

His most famous operas are Der Freischütz, Euryanthe and Oberon. His most famous orchestral works include the Invitation to the Dance, the Konzertstück, the Concertino for Clarinet and the Concertino for Horn. His best known piano pieces are the Variations on a Theme by Mozart, the Piano Sonata No. 1 and the Rondo Brillante.

Some of his standout albums include Weber: Complete Piano Sonatas, Weber: The Complete Works for Clarinet and Orchestra, Weber: Complete Works for Horn and Orchestra and Weber: Complete Works for Voice and Orchestra.

An interesting fact about Carl Maria von Weber is that he was a great admirer of Mozart, and was even asked to write a sequel to Don Giovanni.
