Cameo is an American funk and R&B band that was formed in 1974 by Larry Blackmon and Tomi Jenkins in New York City. The band is known for their unique fusion of funk, jazz, rock, and R&B that created a distinctive sound.

Cameo’s most successful albums include Cardiac Arrest (1980), She’s Strange (1984), Word Up! (1986), and Machismo (1988). Notable singles include “Word Up!”, “Candy”, “Attack Me With Your Love”, “Single Life”, and “She’s Strange”.

An interesting fact about Cameo is that they were the first band to use the vocoder in a commercial release. They used it in their song “Freakshow on the Dance Floor” in 1980, which was the first time the vocoder had been used in a popular song.
