Budgie is a Welsh hard rock band that was formed in 1967. The band was originally composed of Burke Shelley on bass and vocals, Tony Bourge on guitar, and Ray Phillips on drums. Budgie's first album, titled "Budgie," was released in 1971 and was a commercial success. The album featured some of the band's most popular songs, such as "Breadfan," "Baby Please Don't Go," and "Guts."
Budgie's follow-up albums, "Squawk" and "Never Turn Your Back on a Friend," were also successful. The band's most successful album, however, was 1974's "In for the Kill," which featured the hit single "Crash Course in Brain Surgery." The album went to number 12 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold in the UK.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Budgie released several more albums, including "Impeckable," "Deliver Us From Evil," and "Power Supply." In 1985, Budgie disbanded and reformed in 1988 with a new lineup, but failed to recapture their former commercial success.
Budgie's music is often credited as an influence on the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and many modern metal bands, such as Metallica, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden.
An interesting fact about Budgie is that they were the first band to be signed by Jet Records, a label founded by the former manager of Led Zeppelin, Peter Grant.
