Bob James is an American Grammy Award-winning jazz keyboardist, arranger, and composer. Born in Marshall, Missouri in 1939, James began his career playing in various bands before moving to New York City in 1964. There, he joined the Latin music scene, playing keyboards and vibraphone with Tito Puente and his orchestra.

James went on to become a major figure in the jazz fusion movement of the 1970s, working with acts like Grover Washington, Jr., Earl Klugh, and David Sanborn. He released a number of highly successful albums throughout the decade, including his breakthrough 1976 LP, One. This album featured James' signature composition, "Nautilus," which quickly became one of the most sampled tracks in history.

James continued to record and perform throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and his work has appeared in many television shows and movies. He won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance for the 1994 album, Restless. Other standout albums include H and Heads, Hands and Feet, both released in 1975.

An interesting fact about Bob James is that he is the only artist to have ever had No. 1 albums in both the Jazz and Pop Billboard charts.
