Bo Diddley was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and music producer who pioneered the rock and roll sound in the 1950s. He was born on December 30th, 1928 in McComb, Mississippi and moved to Chicago at the age of seven. He is best known for his unique style of guitar playing and creating a beat called the "Bo Diddley beat".
Bo Diddley released his debut album in 1955 and his second album, Bo Diddley is a Gunslinger, in 1960. Both albums featured some of his most popular songs, including "Bo Diddley," "Who Do You Love?," "Mona," "Road Runner," and "Say Man." He also released a number of other popular albums throughout his career, including Have Guitar Will Travel (1959), Go Bo Diddley (1959), Bo Diddley in the Spotlight (1962), and Big Bad Bo (1965).
Bo Diddley's songs have been covered by many other artists, including The Rolling Stones, The Animals, and The Yardbirds. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Blues Hall of Fame.
An interesting fact about Bo Diddley is that he created a unique guitar tuning, known as "Bo Diddley tuning," which he used on many of his songs. He was also the first African American to perform at the Newport Folk Festival in 1959.
