Blaze Foley was an American singer-songwriter from Austin, Texas, who was active from the late 1970s until his death in 1989. His music was heavily influenced by the country, blues and folk genres. He was a major figure in the outlaw country scene and is remembered for his songwriting, his eccentric lifestyle and his tragic death.

Foley released two albums during his lifetime, Wanted More Dead or Alive (1984) and Living in the Woods in a Tree (1987). His posthumous album, Cold, Cold World (1989), was released after his death. His standout songs include "Clay Pigeons," "If I Could Only Fly," "Election Day," and "Oval Room."

An interesting fact about Blaze Foley is that he wrote the song "Clay Pigeons" while he was in jail. He was arrested for public intoxication, and while in jail, he wrote the song on a cigarette package.
