Benny Goodman was an American jazz clarinetist, composer and bandleader known as the "King of Swing". He was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 30th, 1909 and began playing the clarinet at the age of 10. After performing with various bands in the early 1930s, Goodman began his own group in 1934 and helped to popularize the swing music of the 1930s and 1940s.

Goodman was a major figure in the swing era and was the first artist to bring jazz to Carnegie Hall in 1938. His most popular albums include The King of Swing: The Very Best of Benny Goodman (2006), The Essential Benny Goodman (2003) and The Benny Goodman Story (1956). Some of Goodman's most popular songs include "Sing, Sing, Sing", "Goody Goody" and "Don't Be That Way".

An interesting fact about Benny Goodman is that he was the first jazz musician to be featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1938.
