Anouar Brahem

Anouar Brahem is a Tunisian oud (Arabic lute) player and composer. He was born in 1957 in Halfaouine, Tunisia, and has been playing music since the age of seven. He was trained in classical Arabic music, and has since developed his own unique style, combining jazz, North African and Mediterranean music, and improvisation.

Brahem has released several critically acclaimed albums throughout his career, most notably Thimar (1995), Astrakan Café (1996), Le Voyage de Sahar (2002), and The Astounding Eyes of Rita (2005). He has collaborated with numerous renowned jazz and world music artists, including Jan Garbarek, Jack DeJohnette, and Django Bates.

Brahem has won numerous awards, including the Grand Prix du Disque from the Charles Cros Academy in 2002 and the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French Ministry of Culture in 2006.

An interesting fact about Anouar Brahem is that he has been featured on the soundtrack of the French film "La Vie Promise" (2002).
