Al Kooper is an American songwriter, record producer, and musician. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1944. As a musician, Kooper is best known for his work as a session musician and his solo albums.

Kooper’s musical career began in the early 1960s when he joined the group The Royal Teens. He later went on to join Bob Dylan’s backing band and helped to create the influential album, Highway 61 Revisited.

Kooper’s solo career began in 1967 with the release of his album I Stand Alone. The album featured the hit single “This Diamond Ring” and is considered one of Kooper’s most successful albums. He went on to release a number of critically acclaimed albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s including New York City (You’re a Woman) (1972), Easy Does It (1974), and Championship Wrestling (1980).
