Progressive Rock (Prog Rock) Vinyl Records
Progressive rock (often abbreviated to prog; sometimes called art rock, classic rock, symphonic rock or prog rock) is a broad musical style within the genre of rock. It developed in the mid-1960s in the United Kingdom and the United States. Initially it was called "progressive pop," referring to the kind of rock that deviated from standard rock. The lyrics were more poetic. Electronic technology was used to create new sounds reminiscent of a classical string orchestra, for example. The music approached the state of "art" and the recording studio became the center of musical activity, rather than the stage. As with art rock, the music is meant to be listened to rather than danced to.
The main groups that participated in the first developments are The Nice , Yes , King Crimson , Genesis , Pink Floyd , Supertramp , Soft Machine , Electric Light Orchestra , Moving Gelatin Plates , Jethro Tull , Tangerine Dream , Camel . Many artists and groups who claim to be part of this progressive movement are developing internationally , especially with German krautrock and Italian progressive rock .
