Vinyl re-release of the best-of album by the Nigerian Afro-funk band.
In the 1960s and '70s, Nigeria experienced a musical heyday that was heard beyond the black continent as Afrobeat and Afrofunk. One of the protagonists was The Funkees, who were already featured on the "Nigeria Special" sampler, also released on Soundways Records. In the early 70s, they were the only ones who could really threaten bands from Lagos like Mono Mono and BLO.
The compilation "Dancing Time: The Best Of Eastern Nigeria's Afro Rock Exponents 1973 - 77" documents the dance music qualities of the Eastern Nigerian troupe, whose live skills were legendary. It was not unusual for them to play all night, seven days a week. It didn't take long for promoters from Great Britain to get in touch.
The Funkees moved to London, where they quickly made a name for themselves with their performances. There they recorded two groundbreaking albums before breaking up in 1977. "Dancing Time" contains 18 great grooving Afro-funk songs.
