  • Acclaimed bassist Avishai Cohen's most recent album, "1970," became his best-selling to date and introduced him to a pop audience that, for the most part, had no clue about his enormous catalog and previous work. What could have been more natural than to come up with a very similar album now? But Cohen doesn't like to venture into areas he had already explored. That's why "Arvoles" is completely different in sound and feel

"Arvoles" contains eight new instrumental compositions and one surviving song. Cohen did not initially have the plan to compile all nine pieces for the new album. The compositions matured independently of each other, at different times. Nevertheless, they play to each other and seem as if from one cast. "Arvoles" was recorded with drummer Noam David from Israel and pianist Elchin Shirinov from Azerbaijan. Both are outstanding musicians and composers in their own right. They will also accompany Cohen during his upcoming globe-spanning tour, which will extend well into 2020

Classical music and Afro-Caribbean rhythms, bebop and hardbop, swing and hip-hop - there are plenty of trace elements on "Arvoles". Once again Avishai Cohen presents a masterful chapter of his creative work - full of witty joy and the pure pleasure of playing together and respectfully listening to each other with his musicians.

    Reviews
"There's little bass playing as limber and vigorous as Avishai Cohen's. His themes leap and dance in complex rhythms. Yet always remain catchy." (Stereo, August 2019)

"Cohen grooves so confidently through the sometimes through the sometimes intricate, sometimes straight Rhythms that his drummer can indulge in breaks and swirls can indulge in breaks and swirls - especially strong in 'Gesture 1'. The LP features the same has the same tracklisting and the same superior sound quality as the CD." (Good Times, August/September 2019)
