For years, Denmark and especially the capital Copenhagen has been a good place for young artists. Erika de Casier is one of these talents and new to the traditional British indie label 4AD. Born in Portugal to Belgian and Cape Verdean parents, she grew up in Ribe, Denmark.
After being featured on tracks by DJ Central or Sovereign, she started working on her debut album "Essentials", released in 2019. Pitchfork, Mixmag, FACT, Crack and Dummy listed it in their yearly best lists. Now the highly anticipated follow-up is ready, called "Sensational" and released on 4AD.
For Erika de Casier, the new album is a kind of big sister to its predecessor. While "Essentials" was still about the naivety of falling in love for the first time, "Sensational" is about the drama that often follows first love in relationships, about toxic dates with strangers and about the self-conscious attitude that one develops towards such things over time as a woman.
Erika de Casier belongs to a new squad of young female producers like Dua Lipa, Yaeji, Clairo or Shygirl, who confidently produce their own music. On "Sensational" she now lets pop and R&B merge into an intimate relationship out of which a real love grows, creating a sound that warms cold hearts.
