Ska
Ska is a style of music that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and is an early form of Reggae. It combines elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. The sound is characterized by a walking bass line, accentuated guitar or piano rhythms, and an upstroke skank rhythm on the off-beat. It was popularized in England by bands like The Specials and Madness in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and has since evolved into many subgenres such as 2 Tone, ska-punk, ska-core, and ska-jazz.
