Days of the New is an American rock band from Charlestown, Indiana, formed in 1995. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Travis Meeks and a number of backing musicians. Their debut studio album, released in 1997, was the first of their three self-titled albums and was produced by Scott Litt, known for producing six R. E. M. albums, among others.
The album was a commercial success, selling 1, 5 million copies worldwide and going platinum in the US. It spawned three singles, "Touch, Peel And Stand," "The Down Town" and "Shelf In The Room." The first single reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Chart, where it stayed for 17 weeks and is still played on the radio today.
The 2LP "Days Of The New" is available on vinyl for the first time and includes an insert with song lyrics.
Reviews
C. Hammer in stereoplay 12 / 97: "Folky acoustic guitars and electric guitars played in the spirit of Grungerock mix the newcomers from Louisville / Kentucky to slowly developing compositions. These in turn condense into a musical cosmos rotating around itself, which achieves immense suction. Scott, Litt, producer of the alternative rock icon R. E.M., signed the band for his label Outpost and also produced the album."
"...Resolution of the cover artwork is a bit fuzzy, but the quite fat sound is right for that, which shows off the nuanced songs well." (MINT, February 2023)
