The Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio - or as it is sometimes called, DLO3 - specializes in the lost art of "feel good music." The ingredients of this heady cocktail are a big helping of the 1960s organ jazz of Jimmy Smith and Baby Face Willette, a dash of the jaunty soul of Booker T. The M.G.'s and The Meters, and a splash of Motown, Stax Records, blues and Jimi Hendrix-style cosmic guitar. It's a soul-jazz concoction that goes straight to the heart and makes your body sweat.
The band includes organist Delvon Lamarr, a virtuoso self-taught musician with a perfect ear who taught himself jazz and can effortlessly play a variety of instruments. On guitar is the dynamic Jimmy James, who cuts his way through Steve Cropper-like chanky guitars, volcanic acid rock freak-out lead playing, and smooth Grant Green-style jazz. Hailing from Reno, Nevada, is drummer Dan Weiss (also of powerhouse soul and funk collective The Sextones). Dan's smoldering pocket groove drumming provides the trio's explosive chemistry.
Formed by Lamarr's wife and manager Amy Novo, the trio began from humble beginnings in 2015 but has since released two Billboard-charting albums and toured to sold-out crowds worldwide. Now, the trio returns with their second studio album, I Told You So, with even heavier grooves and more confidence. It's been a few years since their last studio album, but they haven't forgotten a thing.
