About this album
Long Distance Voyager marked a major late-career comeback for The Moody Blues, bringing their orchestral pop sensibility into the MTV era with renewed commercial force. Issued in 1981, the album was the group’s first after the departure of long-time keyboardist Mike Pinder, and it introduced Jeff Wayne on synthesisers alongside the band’s familiar melodic layering. The result was a streamlined, radio-ready sound that kept their symphonic identity intact. Powered by The Voice and Gemini Dream, it became one of their biggest American successes and helped re-establish the band as a viable album act in the 1980s.
