Time and Tide is one of Split Enz’s strongest and most inventive albums, sharpening the New Zealand band’s art-rock flair into finely crafted pop. Released in 1982, it found Neil Finn increasingly central to the group’s sound, with songs such as Six Months in a Leaky Boat and Dirty Creature helping define its reach and charm. The record balances eccentric detail, melodic sophistication and a taut, polished production that made the band more accessible without dulling their individuality. Widely regarded as a high point in their catalogue, it helped bridge their experimental early work and Finn’s later success with Crowded House.
