Straight In A Gay Gay World sharpened Skyhooks’ irreverent glam-rock into one of the most provocative Australian albums of the 1970s. Released in 1976, it followed the band’s breakthrough success with a tougher, more pointed set that mixed satire, pub-rock drive and sharp social observation. Anchored by the swaggering Million Dollar Riff and the title track, the album takes aim at media, politics and suburban conformity with humour and bite. Skyhooks’ ability to turn local references into national rock made the record a vivid snapshot of mid-70s Australia and a key part of the band’s lasting reputation.
