Country Life is Roxy Music at their most daring and finely drawn, sharpening glam theatrics into art-rock with an unsettling avant-garde edge. Released in 1974, the album finds Bryan Ferry, Brian Eno’s former bandmates and the rest of the group balancing sleek melody with jagged textures, sensual drama and an unmistakable sense of style. Tracks such as The Thrill Of It All, Out Of The Blue and All I Want Is You show the band’s gift for turning sophistication into something immediate and memorable. Widely regarded as one of their key albums, Country Life helped define Roxy Music’s place at the centre of 1970s British rock.
