The Infamous is Mobb Deep’s bleak, influential hardcore hip-hop release and one of the defining statements of mid-1990s East Coast rap. Issued in 1995, it captured Havoc and Prodigy at their sharpest, pairing unflinching Queensbridge street narratives with cold, minimalist production built on eerie loops and hard drums. Survival Of The Fittest became a signature track, while the album’s claustrophobic mood helped shape the sound of 1990s boom bap and gangsta rap. Widely regarded as a landmark in New York hip-hop, it remains a touchstone for its grim realism and uncompromising focus.
