About this album
And The Hits Just Keep On Comin’ is one of Michael Nesmith’s most distinctive solo albums, pairing dry wit with austere folk-rock songwriting. Released in 1972, it finds the former Monkees member stripping the arrangements right back, with much of the record built around voice, acoustic guitar and understated accompaniment. That uncluttered approach gives the songs real bite, whether on the reflective ‘Tomorrow & Me’ or the better-known ‘Different Drum’, a Nesmith-penned song first made famous by Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Poneys. The album reinforced Nesmith’s reputation as an inventive writer who moved well beyond pop stardom into idiosyncratic, influential country-rock and folk.
