About this album
Misplaced Childhood is Marillion’s breakthrough album and the record that made the band a major force in 1980s prog. Released in 1985, it sharpened their neo-prog sound into something more immediate and accessible without losing ambition, balancing theatrical arrangements with melodic hooks and a strong conceptual thread about memory, childhood and emotional loss. The single ‘Kayleigh’ became their signature hit and helped the album reach a far wider audience, while tracks such as ‘Lavender’ reinforced its crossover appeal. Produced by Chris Kimsey, the album remains the defining statement of the Fish era and one of the decade’s best-known progressive rock releases.
