    Prelude is the breakthrough album that made Eumir Deodato a crossover name. Issued in 1973, it blends jazz, funk and pop with a polished, radio-ready sensibility, led by his audacious version of Richard Strauss’s Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001). Built from sharp arrangements, lively groove and concise melodic hooks, the record helped define jazz-funk for a broad audience rather than a niche one. Alongside original pieces such as Spirit Of Summer and September 13, Deodato’s blend of orchestral colour and compact rhythm made the album one of the era’s most successful fusion statements, and a key entry in early-1970s crossover jazz.
