A lively snapshot of Elvin Bishop’s early-1970s run, this 1975 best-of pulls together the blues-rock, soul and boogie that made him a cult favourite. Before and after leaving the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Bishop built a sound that mixed electrified Chicago blues with Southern bar-band humour and plenty of grit. That approach gave his work its easygoing, party-ready feel without losing the bite of the guitar playing. Compilations like this helped define his reputation for raw groove over polish, and they remain a good entry point to one of American roots rock’s most distinctive slide-and-riff merchants.
