Two is a polished and influential fusion album from Bob James, showing how jazz could be streamlined without losing sophistication. Released in 1975, it helped define the smoother, more rhythmic side of jazz-funk through crisp arrangements, electric keyboards and a strong sense of melody. The album’s best-known moment is his version of "Take Me to the Mardi Gras", which became especially notable for its breakbeat appeal and later heavy use by hip-hop DJs and producers. Elsewhere, James blends graceful themes and tight ensemble playing into a record that remains a key touchstone in crossover jazz and the wider evolution of smooth jazz.
