Blood, Sweat And Tears fused rock, jazz and soul into one of the defining crossover albums of 1969. Their self-titled second album, following the departure of Al Kooper, refined the band’s brass-driven sound with a sharper pop sensibility and helped push jazz-rock into the mainstream. Produced by James William Guercio, it yielded major hits including Spinning Wheel, You’ve Made Me So Very Happy and And When I Die, songs that showcased the group’s tight arrangements and shifting dynamics. The album’s commercial success and Grammy-winning profile made it a landmark for later horn-rock and jazz-rock acts.
