New Age is a genre of music that emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It is characterized by a blend of traditional western instruments, world music elements, and synthesized soundscapes. Its origins are rooted in the progressive and psychedelic rock of the late 1960s and early 1970s, as well as in various forms of Eastern music. In the 1980s, New Age music saw a surge in popularity, as artists like Kitaro, Yanni, and Enya achieved commercial success. In the 1990s and 2000s, the genre shifted away from the traditional New Age sound and towards a more eclectic mix of styles.
