Mitski is an American singer-songwriter and musician from New York City. She began writing music as a child, and released her debut album, Lush, in 2012. Her breakthrough came with her fourth album, Puberty 2 (2016), which was acclaimed by critics and earned her a spot on several best-of-the-year lists.

Mitski's most acclaimed albums include Be the Cowboy (2018), which received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, and Bury Me at Makeout Creek (2014), which was included on several best-of-decade lists. Her other albums include Retired from Sad, New Career in Business (2013), and Puberty 2 (2016).
