Michael Jackson was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and entertainer who was one of the most influential and successful figures in the history of popular music. Born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, Jackson began performing with his four brothers in the pop group the Jackson 5 when he was a child. In 1971, he began a solo career and achieved immediate success with the albums Got to Be There and Ben. His fifth solo album, Off the Wall (1979), featured the single "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

Jackson's groundbreaking album Thriller (1982) became the best-selling album of all time, with more than 65 million copies sold. The album featured seven top 10 singles, including the title track, "Billie Jean," and "Beat It." Jackson released four other albums over the course of the 1980s and '90s, including Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (1995), and Invincible (2001). He released a total of 13 solo studio albums and two live albums, and his songs were featured in the soundtracks of several films, including Free Willy (1993).

Jackson's standout albums include Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (1995).
