Louis Bellson (1924-2009) was an American jazz drummer, composer, and bandleader. He is often cited as one of the most influential drummers in the history of jazz music. He was known for his unique approach to the instrument, which included using two bass drums at the same time. He was also known for his inventive use of the drum set in solo performances.

Bellson was a prominent figure in the jazz world for over 70 years. He played with many of the biggest names in the genre, including Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong. He was also the leader of his own big band, and released many acclaimed albums over the years.

Some of Bellson's standout albums include Skin Deep (1959), The Louis Bellson Explosion (1974), and The Louis Bellson Explosion II (1975). His most popular songs include "Skin Deep," "The Hucklebuck," and "Mack the Knife."

An interesting fact about Bellson is that he was the first jazz musician to appear on the cover of Downbeat Magazine. He also composed over 500 songs, and wrote an autobiography titled “From Ragtime to Fusion and Beyond.”
