John Martyn (born Iain David McGeachy) was a British folk, blues and rock singer-songwriter and guitarist who enjoyed a prolific solo career and collaborated with many other musicians, including Eric Clapton and Phil Collins. He was known for his distinctive voice, deeply personal lyrics and innovative use of guitar effects.

John Martyn's career spanned from 1967 to 2009 and he released more than 20 studio albums. His most popular and critically acclaimed album is Solid Air (1973). This album features some of his most famous songs including "Solid Air," "Over the Hill" and "May You Never." His album One World (1977) was also well received and features the songs "Big Muff," "One World" and "Dealer."

An interesting fact about John Martyn is that he was an early adopter of digital delay and looping technology, which he used to create unique textures in his guitar playing. He also wrote songs with a strong environmentalist message, such as "Head and Heart" and "Weep for Love."
