Franz Ferdinand is an indie rock band that was formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 2002. The band's lineup consists of Alex Kapranos (vocals/guitar), Bob Hardy (bass), Paul Thomson (drums), and Dino Bardot (guitar). The band's debut album, Franz Ferdinand (2004), was a major commercial success, spawning the hit singles "Take Me Out," "The Dark of the Matinée," and "This Fire." The album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and went on to win the 2004 Brit Award for Best British Group.

The band's follow-up album, You Could Have It So Much Better (2005), was also a success and spawned the singles "Do You Want To," "Walk Away," and "Eleanor Put Your Boots On." The band's third album, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand (2009), was well-received and featured the singles "Ulysses," "No You Girls," and "Live Alone." The album earned Franz Ferdinand their first Grammy nomination.

The band's fourth studio album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action (2013), was their most successful album to date, charting in the top 10 in multiple countries. The album's standout singles include "Right Action," "Love Illumination," and "Evil Eye."

In 2017, Franz Ferdinand released their fifth album, Always Ascending. The album featured the singles "Always Ascending," "Feel The Love Go," and "Lazy Boy."

An interesting fact about Franz Ferdinand is that their song "Take Me Out" was the first single to be played in space. In 2007, astronaut Sunita Williams took the single with her on a mission to the International Space Station.
