Alternative Rock

Alternative Rock is a broad genre of rock music that emerged in the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s. The style is generally characterized by a heavy emphasis on guitars and an overall edgier sound than traditional rock music. It often features unconventional or non-traditional song structures, vocal styles, and instrumentation. Common elements of Alternative Rock include distorted guitars, feedback, grunge-style vocals, and punk-style energy. Many Alternative Rock bands incorporate elements of other genres, such as punk, indie, metal, and hip hop. The genre has a long history, with roots in punk rock and underground music of the 1970s, as well as the new wave and post-punk genres of the 1980s. Popular Alternative Rock bands include Nirvana, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, and The Smashing Pumpkins.
