Punk appeared in recorded form in 1976, while established rock, jazz and disco continued to draw large audiences. Standout albums from 1976 include Scenery by Ryo Fukui, Hotel California by Eagles, Ramones by Ramones and Station to Station by David Bowie.
The contrast is the point: the Ramones reduced rock to short, fast songs, David Bowie moved through soul and electronic ideas, the Eagles perfected studio rock and Ryo Fukui recorded a piano-trio album later discovered by a global audience.

The record later found a large international audience, making it an important route into Japanese jazz.
