Albums First Released in 1969
As Apollo 11 reached the Moon and Woodstock drew a huge audience, rock was splitting into hard rock, progressive music and more intimate singer-songwriter records. Key releases from 1969 include Abbey Road by The Beatles, Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin, In the Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson and In a Silent Way by Miles Davis.
The year closed the 1960s with both refinement and new beginnings. The Beatles completed their final recorded album, Led Zeppelin expanded hard rock, King Crimson helped define progressive rock and Miles Davis moved towards electric jazz.

Our Pick of the Year: Abbey Road by The Beatles
Abbey Road was the final album the Beatles recorded together. Come Together, Something and Here Comes the Sun fill the first side with distinct songs, while the second-side medley joins unfinished pieces into a continuous sequence. The production is polished, but the album still leaves room for each member's separate writing voice.
