Relayer finds Yes pushing their progressive rock language into stranger, harder-edged territory. Released in 1974, the album marked a brief but striking line-up change with Patrick Moraz on keyboards, while the group stretched out into longer, more turbulent compositions. The Gates of Delirium dominates the record with its battle-like scale, Sound Chaser drives forward with restless jazz-fusion energy, and To Be Over closes the set with a more reflective mood. Produced by Yes and Eddie Offord, Relayer became one of the band's most distinctive albums, admired for its complexity, intensity and the way it widened the possibilities of prog rock.
