About this album
Stella is the album that turned Yello’s surreal electro-pop into a breakthrough statement. Released in 1985, the Swiss duo sharpened their blend of synth-pop, sampling and deadpan wit into a concise, highly stylised record that brought them wider international attention. ‘Oh Yeah’ became the album’s defining song, later used across film and television, while ‘Vicious Games’ helped underline Yello’s knack for hook-driven eccentricity. Elegant, playful and unmistakably synthetic, Stella is one of the band’s most recognisable and influential releases, showing how left-field electronic pop could also be immediate and memorable.
